I have a 2002 explorer sport trac went to get new rotors i get home and put them on and there to BIG 12" ,ones on my truck are 11 1/4, well i take the back and find the same rotor 11 1/4" for 2003 ranger same bearings and everything else looked the same. I changed them with new pads, well my problem now is that sometimes under light braking at low speeds the pedal skips like the pads aint griping or grabing but u press little harder they grab, but work great under hard braking. I took them off and put old rotors back on and they work fine, the new rotors look like the pads are only making contact on the sides . ANY HELP OUT THERE PLEASE!!

Did you tell them it was a sport trac and not just an explorer 4dr?

Also, I assume you cleaned the rotor off with brake clean before installing, right? They have an anti-rust coating on them..

pedal skipping? sounds like warped rotors or out of round drums.

Dont know if you have an advance auto parts around there, if not, have them cross these numbers...

Sounds like you may want to replace the mounting hardware if you didn't do that yet. Clean & lubricate the caliper mounting hardware as well.

I checked Yellow Splash's info since I work at Advance. All applications call for a 12 inch rotor both 2 & 4 wheel drive.

Silly question. 10th digit on the VIN should be a 2 and you are working on the front not the rear correct?

Ya 10 didgt is 2 and yes its the front hubs.I took the rotor back to napa where i got them they said it might be the heat!! they turned them but havent tried them out.

They turned your new rotors? The ones you bought from them? Hmmm... If a new set of rotors are warped and you brought them back to me I would have replaced them. Now you have less rotor surface for braking.

Guess that's "NAPA know how"..........

Seriously, take them back, get a refund and go buy someone else's product. If you ask any parts person what they would have done I would hope 95% would say they would exchange them for you at no charge.

Yea, I agree...they should have defected those out for you and set you up with a new set.

Just noticed your 2wd...let me update the part numbers.

Back in early 90's I worked at a shop and had to turn 'new' rotors on a regular basis. It's not that big a deal.

Actually JC it is. In the early 90's new rotors came bare with no machine surface done and you had to turn them. Rotors today come machined because most are already thin by OE design. Since these rotors we are talking about were possibly warped they would have to cut enough material out to "true" them. Most of today's vehicle rotors are turnable maybe twice before they run under spec and that's not counting for deep pitting or grooves. Heck some these days are 1 shot use and toss.

I'll have to disagree with you.The rotors we got all had machining marks. At that time you could still only get two cuts out a rotor before replacing. On a 'new' rotor you did'nt have to cut much to true it.So the question of deep grooves is not relevant. Now since our shop worked on mostly foriegn cars it is possible that the rotors were better made then domestic.Still we had to turn a number of them.If I bought a new set and had to to have them turned I would not hesitate to use them.
