hey guys, new here.
so i've got a problem.
i'm getting excessive brake dust only on the passenger front wheel.
awhile back i did the rears because i found one of the shoes had come apart so i did everything, shoes, springs, self adjusters, and wheel cylinders.
still got the dust.
about 30k+ ago i did the pads with rotors and specifically asked for a pad that wouldn't produce a lot of dust. not sure if they were ceramic.

so what the heck.
give me a clue.
i'm ready to change the pads again!

thanks!
mike

Sounds like you have a caliper dragging, check the caliper, and see if the pistons are all gummed up.

I agree there should be some amount of dust, but if you're getting considerably more dust on one side then the other... something is off.

Generally you should go through the calipers, lube or replace the slides, and check or cleanup the pistons themselves... rust scale can seize them a little on you.

thanks!

yea thanks guys!
i was thinking about the possibilities that the caliper may be dragging.
i also know the brakes make dust but my drivers side wheel is black while the passenger side is virtually clean.
wouldn't i notice some pulling.

check yer hose,if the caliper is bad,it will pull opposite, jack up the wheel and get someone to put their foot on the brake, apply and release them a few times, when they release,so should the wheel,if its slow or doesn't, you have a problem.if it sticks.with no one in the truck, open the bleader,if some fluid spits out,and it spins, you got a bad hose,if no fluid spits out,and still sticks, you got a bad caliper.

ok here's the deal

so i'm in the process of diagnosing my problem with the excessive dust.
i jacked it up and tried spinning the wheel and it was very difficult almost impossible.
so i took some of your advice, with opening the bleeder, no fluid, still could not spin.
tried applying the brakes a few times hoping they'd release, nope!
now i took the caliper off and removed the pads and found the inside pad to have a considerable amount of wear than the outside.
so i'm leaning toward a bad caliper.
at the beginning, before i took the caliper off i also noticed what looked like to me that the pads were up against or actually on the rotor.
basically i'm asking before i go and spend $50 bucks on a new caliper (with core) does this sound accurate for me to lean towards the caliper???

Sounds like at least the caliper is bad. If you are saying that you got no fluid out of the bleeder, even when you applied pressure to the brake pedal, then you also probably have a bad hose. It is also a good idea to replace both sides at the same time. It keeps the braking pressure even and you could end up with a problem on the other side in a short time any way.
