ok ive got a kicker l5 12 in a big sealed box, it takes up the whole extended cab of my ranger. i mean its huge the guy used it in his lincoln avitor. i got a smaller box with the sub. its getting 500 rms from a MA comp. amp. i like the sound now but i dont like not having any room. if i put it in the smaller box how much of a difference would it make. i beleive the small box is .75 cubic foot but im not for sure. i cant post pics either the cameras broken. theres a link. it looks just like this box. how would changing boxes affect my sound too? i like heavy bass. the box i have in their now you could probally fit 2 12s in there.

it all depends on the cubic feet requirement of the sub.

typically, the minimum requirement will give you a tighter punchier sound as there is more force inside the box.

the maximum requirement will be a lower hitting sound as there is less force.

go in between the numbers for a good happy medium if you ask me.
it all depends on your manufacturer

ok. i think im going to move the kicker l5 into the smaller box, and put in two memphis 10''s in a ported box. if i can get them they will run on a 880 watt soundstorm amp.

google can be your best friend. 20 seconds of searching and i found kickers recomended enclosure specs.

min sealed - .88cf
max sealed - 2cf
min vented - 1.75cf
max vented - 3.25cf

by going to a smaller box, you are going to be sacrificing output. who knows, maybe the box you have it in is ridiculously oversized for the sub. id go with a sealed box of 1cf. good luck.

i got on the kicker website and found out the cf of the box. the one i have now is right around the .88 mark.i figure on putting in in the small box and running it till i can save up for a kicker ported box. and maybe another kicker l5 so i can drop down to 2ohms and run the 1000rms of the amp

damn thats a big ass box. if your new box is close to .88cf, then id just use some polyfill and call it good.

Should you stuff the box with polyfill? Polyfill is basically fiberglass, like the pink insulation stuff. There are variations of polyfill, like "Polyfil", that can be found in arts & crafts stores. "Polyfil" will work almost as well as fiberglass, but without the nasty problems you run into when working with the pink stuff. By using polyfill in a sub box, it will artificially make the box act larger than it is, which will improve the deep bass response. Note that actually making the box larger than the driver is designed for will make it sound like crap. The speaker manufacturer or distributor will be able to tell you how much you should use. Otherwise, the only way to find out is by trying it yourself. Add about 1/2 pound at a time, until you like what you hear. When using polyfill, try to spread it out evenly, and try to make sure it doesn't touch the driver. If you are using a ported box, then only line the sides of the box with a 1" thick sheet of polyfill. You can buy polyfill that comes in sheets or loose.
