Once you get your hands on a hoyt and shoot it there is no turning back. A year or two ago when I was looking for a new bow and was looking at a Mathews and a bowtech. I took a good friends advise to shoot a hoyt and I have never looked back since then. I urge the OP to go shoot a hoyt and I guarantee you will never shoot a smoother more comfortable bow EVER. But its your decision but at least shoot a hoyt I promise you you will not be let down.

This is going to turn into another gun thread with various opinions. Pick a bow YOU are comfortable with in your hands and on your wallet.

My father has a Hoyt and loves it. I have a Bear and love it. He spent $1500 and I have about $600 in mine. He likes mine and I love mine. It is about how you have it set up. I have several little upgrades; fiber optic sight w/ light for low light shooting, drop away arrow rest, quick disconnect quiver and sling.

It is all about personal preference. Speaking of which, I think I am going to break out the bow this weekend or maybe next. As well as shoot my new FN 5.7

EDIT:
What did you base your FPS calculations on?

After all this talk about bows I was thinking the same thing, I suspect it will be too muddy out for this weekend though. :bawling:

I've been thinking of buying a Martin. They're supposed to be cheaper in price but just as good as the more expensive bows. I bought an old Hoyt from a friend of mine a few years ago. It shoots fine, but it doesn't fit me perfectly.

I suggest going to a shop/store and trying out different bows (if they have their own range), and then decide.

Well shot the outlaw today. I liked it but im going to shoot the bowtech assassin and the bear on thursday cause I have some VA appointments tomorrow. O and the FPS are just the maximum possible Im guessing from the bows websites.

It depends on the weight of your arrow, fletchings, bow setting... it is basically under ideal conditions.

Probably not likely you will ever match it in the real world.

You might check into PSE's too, I haven't shot a newer one but I do like my old one.

When hunting you want ideal conditions but everyone knows that it is less than ideal sitting in a tree stand or shooting from a blind. That reminds me, I need to buy me a new stand and ladder segments. Smarter not harder.

It is not so much the shot, but what the arrow has to go through. There is usually some wind, humidity... that isn't quite the same as the shot in the lab. Not to mention I doubt they are shooting hunting arrows with a broadhead and the fletching to go with it.

If you wait for ideal hunting conditions you are gonna starve... it is never going to happen.
