well i started my truck up after work today and the oil pressure took a sec to pop up. then after it did it popped down after about 2 seconds then popped back to the middle then had a couple minutes of retard where it was twitching from just below the middle to just above the middle. I've had problems before where my oil pressure pops up and then down then back up after i started it but not the twitching. Is it maybe the pressure sender? i know it is a dummy gauge and shows the middle no matter what pressure as long as it is over a certain amount.

My 99 exploder just started doing the same thing, goes from 0 to the middle several times fast, then stays in the middle.. I'm thinking pressure sender too.

my 96 ranger has been doin that for about 2 weeks now. i'm probably going to replace the sender. im not gonna mess around with the gauges unless it still has issues

It just looks like a pita to get to the sender it is right behind the right valve cover right?

it looks gold in color and i believe most of them have a white plug, and its on the right side on the back of the engine, pretty easy to change, mine was doin the same thing and i changed it and it fixed the problem easy.

Try cleaning the connector and crimp it a little so it fits on tite sounds like a loose connection to me.

if its not the sender it could be the oil filter, or a plugged oil pump pickup.. im assuming your engine is not making any noises.

i have had BOTH of these things cause the gauge to twitch.

Always put dielectric grease on your connectors when you put them together to protect them from corrosion.
