long time reader first time poster. so anyways i picked up an 89 shortbox regular cab 4x4 with the 2.3 5-speed manual hubs and t-case with 4.10 gears. the body has some rust, cosmetic mostly, the pans look good and the bed is spotless, not one dent. the price was right $510. problem is it does not run. po said it'd been sitting 5-years and the last time he tried it it popped right off and ran for a few seconds then died and wouldnt restart. im thinking fuel pump. i get it home steal a battery from my other car and throw it in. I can hear the pump going, typical ford pump hum, so i check the shrader valve and the fuel just runs out. kind of like you just cracked the valve on the kitchen faucet. i know its supposed to spray but there is a little pressure there. but is that not enough to run it? i've never met a car i couldnt get going, but i thought i'd ask if anyone had any input before i pour too much time in to it... cant wait to get her going though.

definately fuel. i found spark and had the wife crank it while i sprayed carb cleaner down the t.b. and it popped. so now i drain the tank and start checking the pump/filter/lines and of course age of the gas.

I'd definitely get rid of that 5 year old fuel for sure. Welcome to the 4 banger ranger club!

fuel pump!! easy fix. runs like a champ, but there are many other things to fix before it hits the road, tires, brakes, radiator etc... thanks for the welcome!

Yes welcome! Glad you got it running.

if it doesn't already have that size tire, 31x10.50 tires are a good fit on these, I have the same truck, the tires will fit fine with some minor rubbing on the sway bar and radius arms, but they're both round, so it won't eat up the tires too bad...

glad you got it running!

Yes, welcome...too bad you weren't in Canada...you could drop the engine in my truck and we'd have a winning combo...everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) on mine has been replaced...just doesn't run (getting a new carb though so that should fix it)...

I'm sure you'll enjoy the Ranger...they're great trucks and easy to work on...
