I am going to go through the bottom end on my 88 tc motor. I have been having a little trouble finding a kit though. The motor has a pretty bad clatter currently and i want to be able to make some serious power. I want to completely rebuild it to handle 30psi of boost. I know that all the stock components are work best together so I am just looking for a complete kit of stock replacements. I am going to tear the motor down and rebuild it myself and take the bottom end to a local machine shop. any advice is appreciated.

There aren't any kits out there, you'll just have to piece one together.

For a totally bulletproof engine I recommend ARP head studs, CP or Diamond pistons, Crower sportsman rods, stainless valves and hardened seats and a roller cam.

For a leak free engine I recommend using an aluminum ranger oil pan, a ranger VC gasket from ford, and "The Right Stuff" gasket sealer on everything.

I got a kit from ebay from a vendor called falcon global. They had a complete kit for an 88 TC.

30lbs of boost on stock rods equal a rod that looks like a pretzel. the guy that runs turborangerforum.com has bent one up real, real good. also if you are gonna boost that high, i would look into getting your head o-ringed

You can get away with 30 psi and stock rods for a while, but it's only a matter of time. I've done it before.

But when I built my new motor last year I put in sportsmans because they are rated by Crower for 500 hp and 8k RPM.

ok i will look into all these...

im only 18 and with college comming up next year i dont have the money to spend to actually get the thing up to 30psi but the motor needs bottom end work now so i want to avoid doing it again later when i have the time/money to make the power. 30psi seems a little unrealistic but i definatley wanna go higher than 10.

Well you can be safe up to about 350 rwhp with stock rods and turbo pistons, as long as everything is in good condition. In any case I would recommend ARP head studs. They are a little pricy (it's hard to wrap your head around $100 for a box of fasteners), but GREAT quality and re-useable, so you don't have to buy another set of head bolts each time you pop a HG. On top of that, you are less likely to pop a HG. Just be sure to retorque them after the first couple heat cycles as the HG compresses.

Thanks for the advice! I read the poisonous pinto article last night and I like what they did using mostly stock parts and from what i read there, it sounds like my problem is most likely main bearings. The question I have now is whether or not i should switch to a full floating piston or keep the rods I have now. It sounds like the stock rods are well designed except that most machine shops wreck them by overheating them to get the wrist pins out. Another question is what pistons to go with. The diamond or cp pistons were a little out of my price range but I saw speedPro pistons at summit for 53$ apiece. and as far as the build goes for now I am only interested in the bottom end and will decide what to do about the head later. I heard that switching to the ranger cam is a possibility.

Using a Ranger cam with the roller followers is a good way to go. I am building my 2.3t right now and I plan on robbing the cam and followers out of my 94 when it comes time to finish the swap.

You can get either full floating or pressed pin. Mine are pressed pin.

bmxboy, those speedpros have not been available for 3 years and will never come in stock. I wanted those too, but just had to bite the bullet and buy diamonds.

has anyone heard of eslinger engineering? It looks like they have a lot of 2.3 stuff but its mainly focused on sport four racing. Are there any N/A motor parts that are worth buying?

yeah, esslinger makes good stuff, but it is aimed more at NA ministock stuff. for what you are doing, you probably don't need anything from them. headstuds are available from summit, pistons i got through RPM Machine and all the rest you can get from local parts stores on random online parts stores.

hey davis do you have the part number for those diamonds
