boosting oil pressure

Is there a way to boost my oil pressure on my 3.0? i remember back in the day you could put a washer under the oil pump. do they make a high volme pump for the 3.0?

building a new 3.0 and thought it would be a good idea.

many people discover that boosting the oil pressure and/or volume puts more strain on the oil pump drive (generally the distributor gear) and causes premature failure of those parts, then you have ZERO oil pressure.

you can achieve this effect on a 2.3 without even needing to take the engine apart,
just put thicker oil than intended in the engine and watch the oil pump drive FAIL....

"Low Oil Pressure" is a symptom of other issues, a professional mechanic who isn't linguistically impared might say "oil control issue"

Excessive bearing clearance that results in low oil pressure is an example of this

an obstructed pickup might be refered to as an oil supply issue...

but a 3.0 likely doesn't need more pressure for any good reason.

If you want to feel good about the pressure buy a 150psi electrical guage
but buy a guage sender for a 75psi guage.

That'll make it read "high" and impress your sensibilities...

Me? I'm generally happy knowing that there IS oil pressure, what that specific pressure is really isn't all that important....

You can take all that to the BANK!!

Hi-po engines are much LOOSER from the getgo than ours are! The oil in them escapes the oiled bearings lots quicker.

As a side note the WASHER in them old engines went under the bypass spring, NOT under the pump itself! We punched out the drift pin and put a couple of washers between it and the spring.
