Ford 7.5 inch rear end cross shaft bolt is rounded off. Any ideas as to how to get it loose?
Thanks

Weld a nut on? Have you tried vice grips?

I've tried vise grips no luck. I thought about welding a but on but don't have access to a welder.

hammer on a slightly smaller 12 point socket.

I tried a smaller 12pt but its one of those sizes that's in between everything. A 8mm was slightly big and a 7mm was too small and a 5/16 was too small so I went with the 8mm and that's what happened.

The reason it rounded was because you were using a 12pt. on it. Always use a 6 pt. end wrench. They should be lock-tighted in so maybe add a little heat and a smaller wrench (pound it on there). They can be a PITA even with the 6pt wrench, but less chance or rounding them off.

Hammer and a flatblade screwdriver or a small chisel.
Place chisel or flatblade on the head of the bolt or the flat stop and tap it with the hammer to turn it to the left.
Then replace the bolt.

If you have the room sometimes a small pipewrench works.

pound on a 7.5mm after some heat from a propane torch.

or get a extractor set for 20 bux, you will use it more then onc in your life....a good investment and about the same as a 7.5 mm with shipping if you dont already own a 7.5 mm....
