Body work?

I get a couple 2x4s studs from home depot get them to lop about 18" off and put them across box rails, then put the new box inverted on top with a couple straps to hold it in place. Has worked for me with transporting boxes for a couple/three hour drives.

I can't help with the NY rust; but with shape your box is in, I would be tempted to just grind the heads off to lift the old box off, then replace with new. I had to do that with the ones where previous owner had installed a body lift - bolts were seized into the lift blocks and weren't coming out...

Just replace the whole freaken bed. :D

That is a cool idea!

Downside is I have a rollbar and would be using a different truck to drive much distance though :annoyed:

I've seen some people just make a permanent wooden box that looks like a farm truck with side wooden rails. Looks cool, but I'd rather have a normal bed.

U-Haul rents trailers! I wouldn't be comfortable with a bed strapped to my existing bed! lol. And yes, you can pull the dent out some. You'd have to drill a hole and use a slide hammer. Wouldn't be pretty, but like you said, it would relieve the strain on the fuel filler.

WoW that is far....My advice is to look around for a bed.

Harrygotuseddotcom is the website. The local guys plan a trip to the W. Hazelton junkyard. I bought a bed one time-

Is there anything downstate? I have family that I visit often in NYC, NJ and PA.

There are some yards around Harrisburg that have some late model stuff.

Harry's in Hazelton is one of the best in the state, but they cycle their inventory quickly.

Take the bed off , screw the lights to a board . At that point you can put the bed on edge bad side down and pound it out with the butt end of a 2x6 and a BFH

Or, Buff up the J nuts and screws , harness connections , frame rail and tank stuff, This is the ideal time to run new brake lines, etc. Once you have it where you want it. go get a bed. bolt it down with at least 3-4 screws, bolts, pins. bailing wire, what have you hang light board , drive home. I did exactly that with my dad about 1980. We drove the 68 C 20 about 45 miles to pick up a an 8 foot IH step side bed. I had a roll of baling wire ,cutters and a pin wrench to twist the wire. tight. It is what I was doing at the time in the ship yard. :D

I don't mind travelling a little, especially if I can get a good bed at a good price, but with these u-pull it places, how do I know they won't sell the bed before I get there? It was like pulling teeth last time from these local places when I needed a bumper and a couple things. I can't imagine having to travel a significant distance.

This thread is hilarious.
