Body/Engine harness wire indentification

Hey all,

I've finally been able to dig into my 95 OHV 4.0's electrical system. The truck has been in and out of custom shops for years, and everything has been moved around/cut out, which makes it nearly impossible for me to use Chilton's or Haynes manuals effectively. My truck's layout seems to be different than shown in the manuals anyway - the factory PCM locations is on the passenger side, while all the OHV 4.0L diagrams indicate its located on the drivers side. I am hoping some of you knowledgable guys can help.

Trying to identify the following and determine if they can be removed or not. These three pics are all near the drivers headlight.

Is this a factory splice?

Im trying to identify the large black wire that enters the cab in the left most block (sorry the picture is rotated, so the left is actually the top). I assume these harness used to be in the engine compartment drivers side

Lastly, my harness wraps around the front of the truck just past the passenger headlight. A relay box of some sort is there, and it terminates about 2 feet after the headlight and turn signal with a ten pin harness. This harness is unplugged. Anyone have any idea what its for? My best guess was another A/C harness plugs into it, but since the AC system is removed maybe they tore the harness out as well.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I'm at my wits end with this truck. Drove it for the first time in 12 years this week (off the flatbed into the garage), and would love to get it in working order this summer. Thanks ahead of time

The pictures are not displaying with my Chrome browser, but internet explorer works fine

It kinda hard to comment on a pic you cant see!

Hmm my bad. I was able to view fine with IE from another PC, but even IE9 doesnt seem to be working. I will research and try to fix

Oddly only the thumbnails show up in my gallery. No large image when clicked, but if I paste into my browser it works. Hopefully the following links can direct you to the pictures. FYI, I had to paste and follow each link twice when using Chrome before the picture would show up. Makes no sense.

Thanks again. Sorry for the confusion. I didnt realize the pics werent displaying in IE either.

I cant see the pics with firefox.

Try uploading them to photobucket (or something similar) and then put them up here.

Edit: nevermind, I went to your profile and found them in your album.

Your computer doesnt belong there! It looks like someone really hacked up that truck, why did they do that, whats done to it? Is it lowered to the point where they had to move the computer to keep the wheels from hitting the harness?

Thats a factory splice.

The 10 pin connector looks like the ICM (Ignition Control Module) connector, it wont run without that.

Weird, now the original pics show up in my Chrome browser. Anyway, the diagram below (with PCM on passenger side) is similar to mine. This layout is not in Haynes or Chilton for some reason

The unplugged harness in the pic is more than 10 pins, and the truck runs fine, so I'm guessing its not that important. Maybe the anti-lock brake module (from the above link)? The truck no longer has ABS.

As you can probably guess the truck is heavily modified. AC removed due to body drop. Connectors C134, 135, and 136 from diagram moved to side to smooth firewall.

Im trying to clean this all up before putting the truck back together. Thanks for your help.

I couldn't see the pics yesterday on my iPad, but can today. I can't offer much help though. I might suggest plugging things in that look the same (wiring colors that match only between connectors) and then your next step might be painful, but you might need to unwrap your harness to weed out unneeded wiring. Caveat, I just finished swapping a 94 Explorer power and engine harness, and modified the interior harness to fit in the dash, and placed it all in a 1990 Ranger. It would be nice to see some overall photos of the engine so we can see what is still underhood.
