Ok Im installing the Superlift 4 inch suspension lift on my 04 Ranger Fx4, but im also going to fab a 3 inch body lift. I have already cut the blocks of 1 7/8 inch tubing, but I have no idea what size bolts I will need to place in the blocks. I'm also going to weld the washers to the top and bottom of the blocks. So any help on the size bolts I need would be just fantastic!

Hmmm...measure the old bolts, add 3.5" to that and you should be good to go...just make sure they are threaded all the way so if they happen to be too long you won't have to start over again with different bolts...

I would say the bolts should be about 11.5" and should be Grade 8 if you can find them that long (shouldn't be a problem)...I am going from when I just replaced the mounts on my cab...the bolts I used were 8"...so a 3.5 addition would run you into the 11.5" area...

tubing, seriously??? i dont think thats a good idea. 1 7/8" isnt big enough around neither

I called the local Ford Dealer and the parts guy said that the bolt was 12mm, but said he didn't know the pitch which isn't a big deal. So you think 11.5 inch grade 8 bolt will do the trick?

I'd say measure it after you get the lift on and go from there...I was just guessing from when I did my body mounts and I was going to add a bit of a lift but decided against it (since Hockey season wasn't started yet and I had all these pucks, eh~!)...

i would just save the money and buy a kit and do it right. u will get your steering extension and everything else. u will waste more money trying to make a homemade kit then to do it right in the first place

The tubing would work if done correctly. And be stronger then the plastic crap you buy. I made my bodylift out of freightliner gas tank blocks... Just bought bolts. But like dealer said you have to remember there is more to a body lift than bolts and spacers. Steering, bumper brackets, and gas neck extension

bumper brackets are more for looks, but yeah the steering extension and fuel filler hose will have to be extended. it can be done, tons of people have done it. just do some research. and i agree if you use 1 7/8 diameter pipe, hit a good hill or a big bump and that small diameter could punch right through the cab/mounts. good luck to you.

Just for looks... May be as so.. But on a 04 fx I'd hate for it to look like crap...

I don't like jerry rigging on my 85, I couldn't imagine doing it on an 04...

Anyways there's more then the filler hose, yea its exhaust tube with clamps... But don't forget about the ebrake relocation, fan relocation, and everything else. U know fabbing up a 1" or even 2"(cuZ they don't make em)is one thing. But everything needed for a 3" is different. Y spend all that money on an ifs lift and tires on a new truckn to jackleg a bodylift? They are like 180 new, just run wat u got til u can afford a kit. I'm guessn u are tryn 2 run 35s they won't rub that bad with4" Till u can save up. Just my 2 cents

Those "plastic crap" blocks are actually nylon blocks that are rated to 50,000 pounds per square inch. Check your facts. If he can afford a 4" superlift IFS kit, whats the extra 150 bucks for a body lift with all the shit included, steering shaft being an important included item.

i agree with the buying the kit for being simple and complete.. and i agree with the if he can afford ___________ but who am i to say his money situation. but whatever... my main point was the tubing would work.. but i did say there is more to it than blocks and bolts. the meaning of that statement was BUY THE KIT...

Search is a powerful weapon

the tech library has a 3" body lift install. the measurements for the bolts are there
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/1998_BodyLift.html

i did my own bodylift, but i got the blocks from a friend who had that material on his shop. i used 2x2" 1/4" square tubing for the bed. because i carry heavy stuff in the bed.

i would atleast get the right blocks for the cab and go with steel/iron for the bed. And remember to add the extra supports to the bed or it will bend down when u carry something heavy on it
