It was touch and go there for a few minutes, after spending all day getting the old trans unhook and out of the way, I took the "new" trans and cleaned the fire out of it, got my new rebuilt tc from O'Reillys today and put 1.5 quarts of trans fuild in it, and found out some really interesting info about how they rebuild a TC.
After installing the tranny, I couldn't get the trans lines to screw together, so I cut them apart, went back to the autoparts store and bought some rubber trans lines, took my air compresser and blew all the lines out, so there was no "old" fluid in the system, after getting the transfer case hooked up and all the connections hooked up I poured the rest of the 5 quarts into the tranny, and about half quart of Lucas Trans oil stuff, I let it sit for about 20 minutes, and then started the engine, got under the BII and there was no leaks, thank goodness, but when I put the BII in gear, it did nothing, and nothing in reverse, I thought "o great a bad tranny", I then checked the trans level, and the stick was bone dry, what the heck, I had another 2 quarts of trans fluid, so I put one in and waited a few minutes, and it showed it was still a quart low, so I out the other quart in and then it was full, I then tryed to put it in gear, and WhammO, it moved, I backed it down the length of my drive way, then put it in Drive and WhammO, it moved back up my driveway, SO I was one happy customer, I got back under the BII and made sure there was no lecks, and so far so good.
So Bob lives to ride another day, In a few weeks I'm going to tear down the bad tranny and see what I can find, if the disk are good, I'll put them in a zip bag and save for a rainny day. I'll be sure to take pictures of the tear down.
But I find it odd that I had to use 7.5 quarts to fill this little tihng up, when the book says 5 quarts
O well
Robert
I found out that a rebuilt trans isn't always "rebuilt", they test it and if it test "good" then they drill a hole in it to get it all drained out, and then run a cleaner through it, the guy even said I didn't need a core because they had too many at the main warehouse. He even showed me where they had drilled a hole in the "reman" TC that I had bought, and he showed me where that hadn't cut it open to replace anything in it.
