Has anyone else had any experience with these OBDII scanners? It plugs into the OBD port under the dash and sends streaming live info to a laptop or phone. I use it with an Android phone and a free program called Torque. I now have a lot of info on what the engine is doing:

1.Read diagnostic trouble codes and display their meaning (over 3000 generic code definitions in the database).
2.Clear trouble codes and turn off the MIL ("Check Engine" light)
3.Display current sensor data, including:
4.Engine RPM
5.Calculated Load Value
6.Coolant Temperature
7.Fuel System Status
8.Vehicle Speed
9.Short Term Fuel Trim
10.Long Term Fuel Trim
11.Intake Manifold Pressure
12.Timing Advance
13.Intake Air Temperature
14.Air Flow Rate
15.Absolute Throttle Position
16.Oxygen sensor voltages/associated short term fuel trims
17.Fuel System status
18.Fuel Pressure

Now I would like to find some people running the same 2.3/manual and compare notes. I want to use it to wring every last mpg I can from this truck.

I'm definitely gonna get one, but I was hoping to get one of the cheaper ones. The problem is that the torque app i was planning on using does not recommend the cheap ones for fords so I've been a bit hesitant...The Kiwi brand one is a surefire bet, but at 100 its a bit steep for me right now. Anyone have any luck with these on rangers? :icon_confused:

The first one I got off Ebay worked great on my two Dodges but not at all on my Ranger. Ireturned it then bought an identical one (blue/orange sticker) from a seller who was willing to actually test it on a ford before shipping. It works great on the Ranger. The seller was dansr77 I think. A few more dollars but worth it.

I have the cheap elm123 or whatever and it works great on my 4.0. I'm using the paid version of Torque(its only like 5 dollars)

Yup, thread revival.

Here's the Torque Pro review that FloridaOranges uses:

Another TRS-er said the same setup is good as well. Not bad for under $20.

I came across this, and wondered what else was out there. Apparently I'm late to the party.

Who else has and uses these on their Rangers and other cars?

(NOTE: This is the only thread that came up regarding OBDII scanners, Bluetooth, & Android.)

Here's another thread that I'll link here:

I have the exact same setup.
I use it on my 99 Ex, and her 04 Regal without any problems.

I'm also using it constantly with the problematic cars thar me and my buddy buy cheap and flip.

I also use it at work pretty often. I'm a Chrysler/Jeep/Ram tech, and our scan tools are not very compatible with other makes. We serve the police, sheriffs, and highway patrol, as well as good customers that have non-Chrysler vehicles.

Haven't had an issue with it yet. I'm actually still using the free version of Torque, and have the above pictured Bluetooth reader from eBay for $12. It's the cheapest and one of the most used tools I own.
