2.3L ('83-'97) Blown rings or worse

...its worth making sure the valve events are correct.

at 250 k with a fresh head i can see the rings being a problem....might be a failed piston outright...wasted land or something...

its free to gawk at the timing.

Well it's only been 25k (roughly) miles since the head job and I know the engine had well over 250k when I got it 2 years ago. The old thing is tired and needs to be retired. Probably still don't serviceable life left in it somewhere, but to me it would feel like spinning my wheels on a dead end road lol.

if the tensioner wobbled or something...aftermarket shit is not what it used to be.

trust me....i would move the lima out as soon as it bogged on a hill going to work...or push air through it...

So, I have since managed to find another truck to drive until I can get the engine swap on the Ranger going and finished. I did manage to find a decent TDI ALH in a running and driving bug for about $1100. Going to make that buy this next month. For now I'm driving a 2004 F150 Lariat that has some cosmetic issues and needs tires and a tune up. Picked it up for just over $2k and drove it 2 hours home. Now that I have something else to drive, the Ranger won't be getting desperate shortcuts on the engine swap or repairs.

1400ish for a long block shipped from MAABCO.

But I would also need the pcm and wiring harness which in most cases is a grand alone. Plus with the donor car I can sell the rest of the car and recoup quite a bit of what I spent.
