blown 3.0

That sucks for sure! Sometimes ya gotta pay to play! I hope you at least had a blast (pun intended) while doing it!:D

It was in someone's sig.

Exactly how deep was this water? Seeing your Ranger is a 97, that means your airbox intake is probably the same as mine. I've driven through flooded roads that come up to the frame at speeds of 15~25mph. Never had a problem with water ingestion.

the water way up to the top my bumper and after the truck died it went a little further

That would do it. Just a little too deep for stock intakes. I'll keep that in mind next time when I need to cross a flooded road. But I usually never cross if it comes up to the bottom of the can any ways. Don't like wet carpet.

i fixed that problem today i made a snorkel to go right into my cowl :headbang:

I think you shouldn't have tried to start it. If you ingest water and the engine stalls, you need to pull the plugs before trying to turn it over to clear the water out of the cylinders. Otherwise you get what happened to you, something has to give as the water won't compress.
I dont understand how a starter will do more damage than a running engine. It was likely fawked before he tried starting it.
When I hydro'd my 2.9 my only option was to bump the starter to force the water out, after it turned over freely it started after a minute or so of cranking and I drove it into town with no air filter and watery oil. I got a filter and oil and drove it home where I changed the oil a couple times and drove the ever loving piss out of it for another 25,000 miles. And that's why I try to avoid water now, it's not worth the trouble of repacking wheelbearings and changing gear lube or the risk to your engine.

well as i was towing him out the water level in the hole is up to my rockers.. truck is lifted 7inches on 33s.. .. its funny his younger brother blew a 3.0 an now his is blown.. our buddy blew a 3.0 as well.. ill stick with my 2.9 and 4.0:thefinger:

i can scream through it balls to the wall with the 2.9 b2! lol

The pics don't do it justice, I was actually quite impressed when I saw it. and from how it was explained to me it seems that the motor was ran for a couple of minutes with a badly bent or broken rod. He makes up for being the only un-lifted truck in the bunch with copious amounts of throttle application. I'm quite impressed that this motor lasted as long as it did and I think he is too.
