well ill start with how i blew it up. I was playing in the mud and started to get a little too much speed and hit a wall of water. once i hit the water, the motor made a funny sound and it shut off. I tryed to start it cranked and cranked. it finally started and it was nocking. i let it itle for a little pit. i got in the truck and tryed to move it, gave it a little gas and then it made a loud noise and shut off and would not start. the motor was out 3 hour later. tell me what you think

I think you shouldn't have tried to start it. If you ingest water and the engine stalls, you need to pull the plugs before trying to turn it over to clear the water out of the cylinders. Otherwise you get what happened to you, something has to give as the water won't compress.

Pull the plugs, let the water drain out, and then turn it over with the plugs removed and watch the water squirt out of the spark plug holes. You can clean the plugs and it should start up and run, but it's going to need an oil change right away. If your lucky, there won't be any damage.

Never try to start a motor when it dies in water like that.

the motor was on its last leg anyways, it just gives me a good excuse to put a new motor in it

Exactly. If I was you i'd just put a new 3.roach in it as it will pry be an easier swap.

Exactly how deep was this water? Seeing your Ranger is a 97, that means your airbox intake is probably the same as mine. I've driven through flooded roads that come up to the frame at speeds of 15~25mph. Never had a problem with water ingestion.
