Hey guys the heat and AC have always worked great in my 97' Ranger on all 4 speeds. I even used the AC about a month ago and everything was fine. Well last night i went to turn to heat on to defrost my windshield and nothing..i don't have any air coming out in any position on any speed. I can hear my AC compressor working when i have the switch set to AC or one of the setting where it runs when the heat is on, but no air blows at all. I checked the fuse in the inside fuse box and it was fine. If i check the blower motor with a constant 12v and it works, what else could be my problem? Thanks!

Did you get the motor to spin by attaching a direct 12v to it?

If the motor actually spins and your fuse is OK, it may be the external resistor is totally baffed (usually if it goes only the hi and lo work)...that would be the one on the heater box under the hood...has 4 wires coming out of it...

or you've got a bad connection somewhere...

If the blower motor will not spin at all then you've got a wonky fan...easy enough to replace them...and there are a couple of threads recently that might be helpful...

yeah, when i get home i plan on connecting a 12v to it and seeing it it turns on. Ive heard of the resistors going bad, but like you said usually you only loose a couple of the speeds.

okay, i rang 12v to the blower itself and it turned on fine. So the blower is fine. I checked the fuse inside the cab and under the hood and they both are good. what i did notice tho is that with the truck running and the heater turned on in any position, if i use my volt meter on the plug that plugs into the blower there is 0 voltage. shouldnt there be voltage there? could the switch be bad in the cab? Let me know what u thing guys. thanks!

Sounds like wiring or the switch itself to me.

i should see some voltage in that connector when the heter is turned to on correct?

Definitely...so you've found part of the problem...could be disconnected under the dash...although they are clipped it wouldn't be the first time that one falls out...or maybe someone yanked it out putting in a stereo...or something...

One step at a time and you're there in no time~

this weekend i plan on looking at the back of the switch..will report back! thanks!

Well it turns out that once I located the Blower Motor relay I found that it was rusted really bad. Put a new one in and everything is back to normal. Thanks guys!
