did you notice if anything else stayed on....like the gauges....the ignition switch (not the part the key goes in--the part further down on the column that all the electic wires feed into) could be going bad...
no didnt notice anything else. it has had some electrical anomolies. a clicking in the dash, dome light blinking when door open, air bag light off and on for no apparent reason, the clicking in the dash affects the electric windows, a strange beeping sound from the dash sometimes.

Did it get wet? I had some of those problems when i sunk my engine overnight one time (long story). Even the engine would stay running with the key off.
Id pull the ignition switch and test the contacts with it off. shake it around see if theres anything broken in there, that cuts power to the relays and accessories when off so that would be the first place to look. you can probably test it without removal, but i havent done it on my truck yet so im not sure.
I've wondered if the ignition switch could have something to do with all the electrical weirdness. I had a 97 Chevy one ton that wouldn't come out of first gear because of the ignition switch. But they were able to diagnose that on their machine. Not so easy with this intermittent stuff.
