I am looking to lift the rear of my 96 ranger around 1.5 inches. Is it better to use blocks or add-a-leafs?

Thanks

Pro's and cons in this case.

- AAL's will stiffen the truck up, which will help in towing, take away from ride quality, and loose a little bit of flex.

- Blocks will retain the quality ride, however you run a risk when using taller and taller blocks. Many disaster stories litter the internet of people running tall blocks and having something go wrong. It's a cheap option, however I prefer AAL's

Better still, extended shackles. These will get you that 1.5" with hardly an effect on ride & handling at all (look for the BellTech 6400 Chevy lowering shackles, they will raise your Ranger the same amount they lower the Chevy due to the reversed configuration of the shackle mount).

How difficult are the extended shackles to put on? How about the AALs?

All you have to do with the shackles is support the back end of the vehicle and disconnect the leaf springs at the rear mounts. Unbolt the old and put in the new. Be prepared to fight with the bolts if you do decide to do this though. Much better option than blocks or AAL.
