I believe my truck has the blend door issue. I can hear it making noises when I change the thermostat. I read the write up in the Tech Section about it, but didn't understand if the dash has to come out or not. Does it? Also, if the blend door is messed up, would it keep the compressor from coming on?

I do a/c work on ambulances, so doing my own a/c work isn't a problem. I just don't know how the system in my Ranger works.

Dash has to come out to do it the right way. The door shaft breaks where the electric motor goes into it. The motor still rotates but the door doesn't move. I read somewhere about an aftermarket door that you can install by cutting the box open but don't remember who sells it. I could never make myself cut up my truck so I pulled the dash to do mine. The revised doors have more material at the top of the shaft to keep them from breaking also.

I really don't see how that would be possible. You probably have another problem.

Thanks for the help. My blend door still moves from heat to a/c. The plug going into it is loose. I moved the door to a/c and then unplugged it. I was able to get the compressor to come on my jumping the low pressure switch. So that tells me either no freon or bad pressure switch. I'm pretty sure it's no freon because I let it run for a few minutes and the lines didn't get cold.

I should have an update next week.

The plug on my blend door actuator was wore out and loose. I replaced it tonight. The door works properly now.
