Well just replaced the clutch and everything but now its time to bleed the slave cylinder but there no bleeder screw. Truck manual says that it comes from the factory bled and sealed on 83 and 84 rangers. But even new slave cylinders are this wayfrom the parts stores. How do I bleed this thing so we can get the truck back on the road? The truck is my dads 84 ford ranger with a 2.8 TK5 tranny, external slave cylinder.

When I did my 84 with the TK5 I just unbolted it and tied it out of the way then bolted it back on when I put everything back together. No bleeding and it works fine to my knowledge. You only have to bleed it if you have disconnected a hose or something similar but since you just unbolt it it doesn't need bled. The internal ones where you have to disconnect a hose to remove it you would have to bleed when you put it back together.

they purge back through the hose, so make sure
the hose is the high point of the cylinder and pump it.

The hose was disconnected from the slave. The clutch master cylinder was good but the elave was bad but we had a good one that worked before we took it off but it came off a 2.3, so that could be one problem. But the old slave cylinder has a bleeder screw on it though, even though its not suppose to. Everything is mounted so shouldn't it bleed by just pumping the pedal, if so its not working. I know 85 and up have bleeder screws and are internal because that what I put on my truck when I did my 2.8 swap.

Any and all help is needed, its the last step to getting the truck back on the road.

So the clutch isn't fully engaging right now then?

You could always try one of those fluid evacuators and suck all of the oil fluid out then slip a small tube all the way down to the bottom and pump fresh fluid in forcing the air bubbles out.?

The clutch isnt working at all. Told my brother in law is comming over soon and is bringing a brake bleeder, hes an agro mechanice and has a few more special tools then we do.

Okay got th clutch working and the moment we went to run it up and down the driveway, the damn front driverside hard brake line busted. If it isnt one thing, its ten others.

I've done a tk5, and 3 or 4 fm146 trans. easiest way I've found is to reverse pressure bleed them. force a hose on the bleeder and suck the fluid out of the reservoir as it fills up.

That's the problem, no bleeder on 83 or 84 external slaves. Well, there is an allen bolt on the slave but its a pita. We had to pressurize the resivor to get fluid to it all. I'm still convenced the slave or master is bad, you let your foot off the clutch less then an inch from the floor and it engages, and fast plus you have to pump a few times to get it to work right, samething as right be for it went out. I'm told its air, not 100% convenced it is but we will see. Basiclly you have to put the pedal all the way to the floor for it to dis-engage.

Well you said you replaced the v6 one with a slave from a 4 cyl right? did you compare the lengths of them before you used the 4 cyl one? it could be shorter and thus at full extent would just barely let off the clutch.

My bad on the slave from the 4 to 6 thing, there way different so it wasn't changed but the master is being used ( I think ) but it will all have to wait awhile till we get my dads brakes fixed, that should be soon. All I know is I think the problem item has yet to be fixed but we will see.

Okay, brakes fixed but clutch doesn't work now were replacing the master cylinder for it..

Yup it was the master cylinder, told everything works as it should be.
