BlackBII's white ranger

Got the dash out of the Explorer. The Ranger is now one step closer to getting A/C. :D

Those turned out great

Thanks champ. I really like that cast iron color. Going to use it on many of the parts.

Hopefully by the end of the day I'll have the 4.0 all spiffed up and ready. Then it's onto the Ranger; gotta pull the engine, trans, dash, heater box, etc and then install all the explorer stuff.

Love the paint. That dash looked like a pain.

How to have a water pump that'll never leak.
First put ultra black silicone on the timing cover

Then put on the paper gasket with ultra black on the gasket

Then put on water pump. I have never had anything leak when doing it this way. Paper gasket with ultra black on both sides of the gasket

Engine is coming together nicely. All new gaskets, sensors, plugs, wires, etc

With this 4.0 swap, I am swapping the dash and complete engine harness, but there will still be some wiring issues. There are two plugs on the driver's side fenderwell that have the wiring for the fuel pump, tail lights, etc.

I found the diagrams for both vehicles. Maybe these will help someone that does a similar swap.

Looking good! :icon_thumby:

Looks like it is coming along nicely, that is a neat silver. :icon_thumby:

Is it from a rattlecan or did you have spray it with a gun?

Thanks!

I used VHT Cast Iron Engine Enamel. It's supposed to be good up to 550 degrees; we'll see. I did order some single stage urethane paint to use on my lift parts and axles, not sure when I'll get around to spraying that stuff with my gun.

There should be more coming this weekend. I'm planning on pulling the 2.3 out on Saturday/Sunday if I have time

All you need to do is decide if you wanna keep the two round connectors setup and convert the explorer harness over or keep the single square plug in the explorer harness and convert the ranger harness over to that style. Its just a matter of pulling pins out of one connector and putting them in the new one. All the wire colors are the same. I had a similar issue when I swapped my old '92 Ranger harness into my '91 Ranger (ended up putting the original harness back in since the power distribution box wiring changed between the years and was causing some funky issues with the radio/electric 4wd/charging...)

Yeah I'm going with the square plug; already have the one from the explorer ready to be repinned. Thanks for the pics! Those along with the wiring diagrams should help anyone reading this thread for information on their own swaps. :icon_thumby:

What do chasing threads and chasing girls have in common? Only the dirty ones are worth doing.
