I searched all over and didn't find any opinions on the subject of which is the better sealant , so, what do ya'll think is the better sealant and which would you use for different applications ie: oil pan gasket or trans pan gasket or other applications where anti freeze or petroleum products would be an issue..
Also, would you use a paper or cork gasket in addition to a sealant?

Don't know exactly where I should post this question , figured this was good as any..:dunno:

I generally use black. Gaskets depend on what you are sealing. For instance 3rd member cover I use none. Next time you are in an auto parts store read the packages. They say right on them what they are for. Fuel resistant ect. I also use 3M super weather strip adhesive for a lot of stuff. Also known as Gorilla snot.

I use ultra black for pretty much everything with great results as long as everything is clean, I think the ultra grey is the same deal on being universal...

We use ultra gray for everything at the dealership.

If thats the grey stuff yup

On differentials I just use a gasket and put it together dry and clean.!That way I don't have to scrape the rtv off next time. They seal up nice.

I find Permatex Ultra Blue works great on most oil applications(valve covers and oil pan, etc...), and water applicatiins(water pump, lower intake seals). I won't use regular RTV for anything. But I prefer to use a Fel Pro Permadry gasket whenever it's available. No sealant and always works, not to mention being reusable. On a rear end I find that Ultra Blue works well too, the only drawback is its light blue, and can stand out if you aren't careful with it or trim it off.

You guys using the stuff that says "for 7.3L engines" too?
There are two types of Ford grey. Ta-29 is the ultra grey stuff. Ta-31 is the IH specific stuff for 7.3 powerstrokes.
