is there any difference in a '89 BII 7.5 and a 3rd gen (94) Ranger 7.5 width? reason for asking is i kept the rear out of my old b2 before she went to scrap and i want to weld it up and put in my ranger but i dont want to put it in if it will be narrower/wider. im almost sure i read on here a while ago that the ranger 7.5 was about 2" wider. can anyone confirm this?
and yes they have the same gear ratios for when i swap the axles

and the reason i want to use the B2 rear, it has all newer breaks and a newish ring& pinion that was install just before i got it, roughly 2 years ago.

measure the distance between the spring perches, it should bolt right in

i know the spring perches are the same width, im talking about drum to drum width

and i would go measure the axles myself but the B2 axle is my the other garage down the road from my place

Tape measure before wrench!

I bought a 7.5 out of a Ranger at local JY to put in my B2 because it had 3.73 LS and the larger brakes. I completely rebuilt the brakes and sanded and repainted the whole rearend, pulled the old one, rolled the new one in place D'OH ! ! ! Spring perches DID NOT match up, D'OH ! :bawling: So I go back and re-read the 7.5 page in tech library for the third time and yes it says plain as day there is a difference. Read my signature below, it fits.

Don't ask, MEASURE ! Good luck

The B2 axle should be close to the 93+ ranger axle width, the spring perches are spaced wider though.

As long as you can mount it properly, being the perch to perch measurement, the drum to drum measurement will not affect anything unless you just have a touch of ocd. I ran a 98 and older 8.8 in my 2000 mustang and the axles housing and shafts were 3/4 inch shorter on either end, they bolted up fine but no noticable difference in stability.

Yep, perches will not line up. As stated earlier you will need to cut off the old perches from the BII axle and re-weld new perches for the Ranger. If you're going to do that, might as well clock the rear end up a couple degrees. :headbang:

I just swapped a rear from a '87 ranger to my '85 b-II. The perches on the ranger were in toward the pumpkin by an inch on each side. I welded a 1/2" thick 2 1/2" by 5" plate to the perch offset by an inch [with a hole to match the spring bolt pre-drilled]. It seems to be working fine but I think I have to clock the rear because I added a 2 1/2" block at the same time, and I'm getting a vibration at ~ 110 kmh [68mph], and it gets worse the faster I go.
