Biggest and widest tire size on factory rims and hight

What tire sized do you recommend JoshT I live in a beach town and most of my driving is sand. I was thinking 33s MT but after reading what you said about the bigger tires I think Im gonna go with 30s MT. What do you think?

I can't make that suggestion. Get what you like and works for you. I'm going smaller because it seems like it will work better for me. I don't need added ground clearance anymore and have about a 64 mile round trip for work daily. I've got a heavy foot which doesn't mix well with large heavy tires. Also carrying a load and pulling a trailer more often, smaller lighter tires will help with that as well.

I liked 31s when I had them, wanted a little larger when I replaced them. Got a 32s, twisted the bars a little more and added the lift shackles, it was my only offroad vehicle at the time. Great stance like the way the truck looks with them. If my situations hadn't changed it would stay as it is. If I had more engine or better gearing I might would even consider 33s. Engine swap is out of the question due to other long term plans (AKA 68 F-100 4wd w/ 390FE).

SirSantie:

One thing to watch out for is load range E tires. One of the Ranger which passed through my place had 265/70R16s, load range E, and they were so stiff that even with only 10 psi, they looked inflated. And the 'problem' with many 16s, is they are historic '1 ton' tires, so are high load range.

So, the choice for 16" tires for a Ranger 4x4 (load range C) is depressingly small (and 17s aren't much better).

Note. Torsion keys are effectively a large torsion twist and leave you very little "downward" suspension travel...

Another thought on the tires...

From everything I've read a MT is less than ideal for the type of conditions you are planning to use them in. I was once told that the best tire for driving on the beach was a bald street tire, reading since then I understand why. In sand you don't want to dig because you'll never find the hard bottom, digging is what mud tires do best. Instead you want a tire that will float. A bald tire with no tread isn't going to dig, unfortunately it isn't very safe for road use either. Seems like the best tire for loose sandy conditions like dunes or beach would be a wide all terrain or highway tire. On top of that lowering tire pressure when you hit the sand would make the contact patch even larger which would make them float on the sand even better.

Just off the wall thinking here, no basis in experience. I said previously that a wider tire is better for sand. It's possible that a taller tire might help on sand as well. Moving to a taller tire is effectively the same as going to a higher gear ratio which means that you will loose acceleration and pulling power, the added weight will add to that as well. That sounds bad, but softer acceleration means you are less likely to spin tires. Spinning tires means digging and as mentioned previously digging is bad on sand, so a taller tire might be beneficial. That's just speculation though.

I can speculate a lot, but best thing you could do for selecting off road tires is talk to people that play where you want to go and see what works well for them.

Here's a better pic of my truck on the 32s like I said I'd find.

With yours being a step side and no flares, I can tell you that a 31x10.5 looks good on those as well. That's the size my dad has on his step side Ranger, sorry no pics. If my Ranger hadn't come with the flares, it probably would have stopped at a 31.

My 05 had stock 16's on it.

If I were in your shoes, I would probably aim for 31x10.50's. Floatation is the key on sand. Airing down on the beach also helps because it enlarges your contact patch.

Would flairs from a non step side fit a step side? I found some for 60 bucks but unsure if they would fit.

There common

There on a lot of the fx4 what size are the Alcos''s that they put on the ranger?

31x10.5 for 16's are rare as hen's teeth; 265/70R16 is metric equivalent of same size...

Alcoa rims are 15x7.

Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac 265/75R16 load range C

Will 265/75R16 fit my 4wd Ranger? No lift but I will turn the torsion a bit.
