Can U fit larger rims on a 94 ranger, say 16" since there are many more tire choices in 16's.

Yep. But 15" tires tend to be cheaper.

x2 much cheaper. If putting wider tires on is what you want you will have to get aftermaket wheels anyway with a 0mm or - offset to clear for turning. The only benefit 16" wheels really have for larger tires is they have more choices for skinny (less than 12" wide) 32" tall and above diameter tires. Other than that you will find the same tires in 15" and 16" sizes that are 12" or wider. The 15" tires are by far cheaper.

Ok...

Stay with 15" rims, the 15" tires ride better because they have a lower load rating.

No they ride better because you have more sidewall cushion...

If you get a 6ply 16 and a 10ply 15 the 6 ply would ride better. Load rating isn't the issue at hand.

IMHO if you want new wheels id go ahead and get 16's. if your happy with 15's but thought you needed 16's I'd keep the 15's. not as big a difference between 14/15/16's in ride, tire options or ply options as some may act like. You might save 6 dollars a tire...

14s?? I'd love to see a 14 mud tire...

15s have a poor selection of metric-sized tires bigger than about a 235/75 or so.
There are options once you get into 31x10.5 or 33x10.5 sorta thing, but not as many tire varieties.

16s have a much wider range of larger-sized metric tires, and this has its advantages... For instance, TreadWright doesn't do anything bigger than a 31x10.5 in the 15inch rim, but you can get a larger tire in metric sizes on a 16.

That being said, I would still stick with 15" rims unless you specifically cant get the tire you want in a big enough size or something on a 15.

Yup, just trying to have the option of a tall yet skinny MT tire. In 15" you almost have to get 33" in a 12.5 wide. I'd like to have pizza cutter MT's that work instead of wide tires that float on top and ice skate around in the thin mud. Better in winter too.

You just have to look around for the right brand. www.tirerack.com lists 3 tires in that size, including the BFG MT TA KM2

I got the BFG's M/T in 33x9.5 x 15 on my 91 and they work really well.
Plus I really like the more tire less rim look , it's the way a nice 4X should look !:icon_hornsup:

That size is perfect. Do U have them on stock rims? Not really sold on the KM2's but... Got any pics?

33x9.50 sounds pretty damn skinny. I wouldn't go with anything less than a 10.50. Obviously the most common is a 33x12.50, which is what I would go with. I would rather float across stuff than sink in and get stuck - keep in mind 33s are not GIANT tires, meaning your clearance under the diffs are not super-huge, and if you get tires that will really dig into the mud you run the chance of sinking too low.

The 33x12.50 would be better in icy/hard packed snowy conditions, because the wider tire creates a bigger contact area with the road. That said, Mud tires suck balls on ice/hard pack regardless, unless you get a grooving iron and sipe the hell outta them. (even then, real winter tires are made with a different rubber compound, standard tire rubber starts to stiffen/freeze at 7 degrees C, while winter tires stay soft well below freezing)

On a tire that tall, you typically need a rim with different backspacing than the stock rims, otherwise you will probably rub on your radius arms (and front sway bar if you've got one)
