Big problem don’t know what to do

So I’m having a problem with my 94 Ford ranger v6 4L everytime I am pushing my gas all the way to the floor it hesitates over and over sitting at 25 mph not going up at all when I hold my foot on there it’s like I’m pushing on the gas and pulling off over and over again and about 7 seconds in of holding your foot down it makes a loud noise like something is dropping I have no clue what this is in my truck or what to do anything can help.

Are there any codes? These may give a good direction to start looking.

Well.. scanning the code would give you a better idea of what to do. More so than any of us just guessing lol.

How do you scan a code what is that?

Just go to your local auto parts store and ask them to do a code check.

You should also do a good visual inspection under the hood and ensure things are plugged in and vacuum lines are connected.

You need a code reader, plugged into the OBDII port under the steering column. It will communicate with the computer, and tell you why there is a CEL (Check engine Light). Once you have a the codes from the CEL, you can look them up. They will not tell you exactly whats wrong, just why you have a CEL, but they can point you into the correct direction to start trouble shooting.

Like Uncle Gump says, if you can drive to a parts store, most of the time they will pull the codes from the CEL, make sure to write down the numbers or take pictures. Or you can purchase your own cheap code reader for a few bucks if you plan on doing a lot of your own work on your truck.

Sounds like plugged cats... definitely scan it.. autozone will print out the codes for you, not sure about others.

Guys its a 1994 so its EEC IV not OBD2.. no parts store I know of still carries OBD1 scanners. Yes you can buy one but autozone etc won't be able to do it for you.

@Mikeosaji look here for info on how to pull codes yourself on a OBD1 computer. You don't need a scanner, you can use a paperclip or a multimeter.

But my vote is clogged exhaust, or failing fuel pump.

1994 does not have an OBD2 port. I highly doubt any of the chain parts stores will have a code reader nor will they know the correct process to scan codes on pre-OBD2 vehicles.

As for your problem, it could be one of many possibilities. The big question is: how mechanically inclined are you? What do you have for tools, test equipment and knowledge about fixing vehicles in general?

If your answers are something like, not much, I would suggest having a mechanic look at it. There is no sense in throwing parts at it just because some people on the internet suggested you do so.

He has a 94, so no obd2 code reader for him.. Your truck is EEC IV I believe. basically you will count the blinks of the check engine light once you get into the diagnostic mode. I believe that it will blink each code three times before going to the next stored code. the codes should be in two digit format, it will flash the first digit quickly pause, then flash the second digit. then repeat two more times and go to the next code. so first code should be 12 to say the computer is working (one quick flash, pause, two quick flashs, repeat 2x) then the next code. last code will be 52 or 54 or something similar (ONe of you Ford Techs can chime in on this one @RonD or @adsm08 ) the first code tells you the computer works, the second tells you that it is done, and everything in between tells you what is wrong.

Yep OBD1 readers still exist in plenty. My point was not that you couldn't buy one from a parts store, but those that offer free code readings like AutoZone generally do not have one for store use so they won't scan an OBD1 vehicle for you.
