We were on the trail for about an hour and a half when we rolled up on some camera men. Here the "jk experience" group had a trip on this trail the same day. They were sponsored rigs everywhere. All Jk's Falken tires was the main contributor.

These guys were sloppy drivers. They were winching their differentials over everything. Terrible lines, terrible spotters and 30 rigs.
Ill update more after lunch or tonight.

More money than brains, that's all.

30 rigs in one group on Holy Cross is wayyy to much anyway. That trail is a traffic jam on any given day as it is. It looks like you will need to break out the hammer before you put your doors back on, you should get some sort of rocker protection or sliders on there.

He said in the writing with the picture that it was "time for sliders"

The new front end looks great.

Those rear shackles are really out there.... I know they were just talking about it and all, but i have never seen a leaf spring drag on a rock like that before. Maybe it is more common than i know of, but i have just never seen it before. Worth at least considering. :dunno:

If you are getting into trail like that, I HIGHLY recommend getting a doubler. You can ask anyone who has wheeled with one, they will never go back. The difference is just awesome. Just make sure you get some real good driveshafts...:annoyed:

oops must have missed it, I was too busy looking at the trail porn:drool:

Doubler? Yeah, maybe one of these days I will actually get to use mine.;missingteeth;

Yeah we were stuck on that trail all day... We left the house at 6:30am, started the trail at 9, got off the trail at 8pm and didnt get home until 12:30am... I talked to a guy about getting some square tubing but he never got back to me on it. I actually only had to jump on the door jam a few times and shes back to normal.

A doubler is on the to do list, and I read your thread about the Rubicon trail. Pics are awesome, but the damage had to take the fun out of the trail. I do want some good driveshafts. .25 wall or something.

glad to hear you got the rockers bent back down.

Yea, it pretty much did, although coming down Big Sluice was a freaking blast. That is where my aviator is taken from. As you can see, its perfect for those nasty flex shots.

I would take Moab over the Con anyday.

That puts things in perspective for me a bit.

Heres a question, I broke my axle shaft ear yesterday, the story Ill tell later, but I was wondering if I am okay to drive on it? I know if a jeep breaks a shaft the tire will fall out...

Okay so back to Holy Cross trail. One of the guys from "the JK experience" Was from Petersons 4x4. His name is Ali Mansour. It was his Red Ranger in one of the peterson 4x4 issues. Heres a link to his ranger. http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/projectbuild/131_0711_1997_ford_ranger_axle/photos.html

We talked about rangers for a while, hes going to do a D60 swap up front next.

The truck did awesome and Holy Cross trail was the first "real" trail I did with all the work done to it.
The next day a local trail opened and I decided to run it, its an easy trail but on this trail I broke my axle shaft ear. I think i lost a ujoint cap early in the trail because she was making a squeaking noise when I would turn left. Then halfway down the trail I heard kind of a "crack" noise. I stopped and looked but couldnt see anything. Heres a pic of the rock I broke it on.

I pulled the front of the truck on this obstacle, had the wheels fully cranked, flexed the truck fully but decided to keep climbing. Thats when she broke. I ran the rest of the trail in 2hi.

Thats all I have for you right now. Next project is fix the axle shaft, finish paint, sliders, bumper, make a cut, turned, and trussed D35.

06rangerxlt I sure hope you didnt subscribe to my thread because I really dont want you on my thread.

If my shackle breaks the truck will be sitting on my shocks or if I wanted to I could fold the shackle as far forward and run it under the bumper... Why would you run the shocks lower? so you can get hung up on rocks and the trail?
LOL no, im not going to subscribe. but dont cry over criticism.

and not down. out. push them towards the leafs, and run them on top of the axle.

Meh, truck looks like it works well with the shit it has. I already made my comment on the bed but the rear shocks thing is getting a bit ridiculous...

The only way to have long travel shocks in the rear without cutting up the bed is to run a cantilever setup.

Every prerunner out there has a hole in the bed, or no bed floor at all....

As for the gas tank, I can go through and point out more than just 1 truck running the tank in the bed.

Kage managed long travel shocks just fine without cutting the bed.

Digging the pics, thanks for sharing those. Get the doubler, you won't regret it.

...., the story Ill tell later, but I was wondering if I am okay to drive on it? I know if a jeep breaks a shaft the tire will fall out...

Unlock the hub and rock on. On the Jeeps (and most other unit bearing type setups) the stub shaft holds the two halfs of the unit bearings together.

I've got crappy interwebz in the hotel I'm at now so I cant' go back through your thread, but I think you just have a traditional spindle setup with that D35.

Hope that helps.

Yesterday I got some work on the truck done.
Its been rainy and cold here with no signs of stopping so I decided its time for doors again. I also decided to paint one:

I pulled the inner door panel off to paint and I decided to paint that flat black:

Im really happy the way it turned out. The whole dash/ interior will be flat black, The red on the seats will be dark green. I need to get a bit more paint on the inner door. Thats all for now hopefully tomorrow I can get the other door done.

Im pretty sure im going to do this.

Did some more painting on the truck over the weekend. I decided to finish the interior so I pulled the whole dash out:

Pulling the dash out was a lot of work but I think it was worth it:
