Better Transmission For my 2.9l

which 5 speed train would be best for my ranger m M50d or the M5R1 I have the fm146 and its the second one ive gone threw I had a buddy tell me that a trani outta a 1990 or 1991 is the best to get js don't know which one

M50d and m5odr1 are the same. The r1 is in the smaller trucks and the r2 is in the full sized trucks. You can get an m5od r1-HD which is yes heavy duty but has lower first and second gear. Throw a m5 in there take care of it and have fun.
