Which model year Rangers would be best for a 4v swap?

I would just drop a 5.0 in it and call it good. Welcome by the way.

95+ ranger, 98+ ranger for suspension. On the 4.6 motors 96-97 lincoln mark 8, or the 96-98 cobra. I've got one for sale if you're interested...

I dunno man. The 4.6 4V can make 300 horse stock. I don't think the 5.0 is rated for that.

I was thinking ease of the swap, 5.0 would be the best route.

I'm building a 351ci 4v (4.6 based) and it will be mated to a 4r70. I do a lot of 4v camshaft and intake manifold work and this will be used as a test bed since I don't have an engine dyno but do have a access to a chassis dyno.

Should I be looking for coil spring suspension trucks?

That's going to be quite the stroker kit. The 4.6 is only 286 CID. Please post a build, I want to see this.

yes, all '97 and older have coil springs, but some 2WD '98-'10 had Coil IFS instead of torsion bar.

Good read here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/front_suspension.shtml

4.6l DOHC aluminum block and heads runs about 450bs
5.0l about 450lbs
351w about 470lbs

The width of the 4.6L DOHC is daunting, 30", common 5.0l Ranger swap is 21" wide and it is a tight squeeze, lol.
5.0l is also about 21" tall, 4.6l is 30" so body lift in you future :)

I'm using a 3.740" bore with a 4.0" stroke crank. The block is an iron Boss block but I do have a big bore aluminum block also. The Al 3.7" block can only be bored .020 and won't achieve the magical 351 number.

So, does anyone have a ranger for sale?

Why not just use a 5.4 block with the 4V heads?

The 5.4 is heavier, taller, wider and requires the use of much smaller bore diameter and a longer 4.350 stroke. I do a lotta mustang work and the 5.4 in a mustang results in a very nose heavy car. The 5.3 has only a couple intake manifold options and it also requires custom headers and has minimal clearance at the strut towers. The 4.6 based engines make for a much more cost effective and lighter powerplant.

Why a ranger...well I'm tired of mustangs and want something different.
