Well, we got the 4.0 in and she runs great!!!! We used the transmisson for the 89 bronco and we have the transmission from the 91 explorer. What is the best way to store the transmission? The transmission fluid in the 91 exp. transmission looks a little burnt (brown). Should I drain the fluid forn the tranny and the torque converter and store it that way? Any advice??

Thanks!!

leave the fluid in it, wrap it in plastic and call it a day

Auto or manual? An auto I store sitting on the pan with fluid in it and a manual I store with it standing on the bell housing either full or empty.

The auto that I have stored still has the fluid in it as I move it around every once in a while and I turn the convertor yo atleast keep the seals from drying up. A rebuild is 500 bucks around here so if I can keep it somewhat lubed up I guess I'm good.

same here, storing transmissions dry will cause seals to dry out, storing them wet prevents this.

Just out of curiosity, why would you store it with fluid?

because I am too lazy to dump it out. waste of time if you never use it or sell it, plus it's pretty inconvenient if it's not in a vehicle. if it leaks, then you've got other problems going on there to worry about. good way to store it though is as cash in the bank.
