I have one of those multi tool things, rigid brand. Love it. Great for cutting stuff in tight spots. Can do a plunge cut.

At my job I was taught not to cut the nail or staple, but grab it from the end without cutting, and wiggle until it snaps, it always snaps just below flush. Dull diagonal cutters work perfect for this.
