Looking for a newer Ranger 4x4. I was wondering out of all the options, which one is the best overall?

I will do a little 4x4 action, but mostly just looking for a daily driving do it all truck! A truck with decent gas milage and all the options. The reason why i said stock is cause i dont plan on lifting or modding it in any way, just want a newer ranger that will last me forever (with popper maintance) get me around in all types of conditions, haul whatever it is i need to haul, and look good. also i dont usually have many people in my car, so should i look at a reg cab or just go with the ext cab?

I really like Fx4 rangers, but i do like them all really?

Help me out!

by the way, i did buy a 2000 ranger xlt with my girlfriend, but then we split and she got the truck. dont remind me! haha

Are any ranger built in the last 10 years available without a/c?

My buddy's 1998 2.5 Ranger doesn't have AC, but I think the new 2.3s and 4.0 SOHC have AC standard. I think its still an option on the 3.0s IIRC, according to the serp. belt diagram on the core support of my truck. I personally can't live without AC, I use it every time I drive my truck in the summer. I also recommend the extended cab, the extra room really comes in handy and I find the regular cab too cramped. I have to push the seat back all the way to be comfortable, and even then I wish it could go back just one more notch.

Anything can be taken off. I think that some of the newer Ranger do have that option, but I think mostly the Northern area, and some of the Southern trucks have the option of no heater.

Honestly don't care. I don't go around and studying every single ranger and what options they had with what years. If you know what years came standard with ac you probably have too much time on your hands.

i believe the XL (except 4.0) rangers were the only ones that didnt get a/c standard

So which ranger would u suggest???

Edge, Tremor, Fx4, Fx4 lvl2, XL, XLT

I have a 05 Ranger XLT has A/C, Carpet, chrome bumpers and grill. I got the 2.3l, which to add I love, and my truck is only 2wd.

I got a heck of a deal on it and when I bought her she was practically new.

But what are you looking for out of your Ranger ? And that will answer what package you want to spend your money on.

Do you want looks, driveability, utility, comfort, price, mileage ?

EDIT : I miss read the first post.

But then how much you wanting to spend ? That can definately narrow your options down.

But I would not mind a 4x4 ext cab xlt.

haha, pretty much all of the above. I want a full bed, ext cab, 4x4, less then $15000, and less then 50k miles. Ive found about 5 that are all less then $15,000 asking price, all different styles.

I perfect looking Ranger would be a Black Fx4 with full bed, stock everything, excpet i want to black it out. Tinted windows, black headlights, taillights, black wheels with bfg all all terrains.

If the buick I bought hadn't of come through the dealership I was set on buying a '02+ std cab 2wd ranger with a 2.3l duratec and a 5spd, good gas mileage, and faster than my '92 4.0l...I guess its not the "best" but it was a pretty good option for me for a daily driver.

yea, i gotta have 4x4!!! i might go with a reg cab, but only if its a black edge!

how are you all doing on gas milage?? 4x4s with v6?

4.0 SOHC, ext cab, auto, 4x4, 4.10 gears and I almost always get about 17.5 mpg and that's almost all highway driving. I have the Sport model and I love it. Body color bumpers, grille, white-faced gauges, rubber floor, running boards, fender flares, all standard stuff with the Sport. I just got it in April, it's a 2006 and it had only 12k miles on it. (now has 16k) Fully loaded, $18k before taxes and stuff.

ya know, i was going to recommend a 4x4 4cyl with manual locks and windows but i cant seem to figure out how long ago they stoped making them......

a little while ago i saw a 96 4x4 2.3 with the 5spd and manual tcase, regular cab short box. If only i had the cash on me at the time i wouldv'e snaped it up $2300 IIRC

I would get the extended cab. Its really nice to have that little extra storage inside. I see to many people that carry a passenger and they got a few things with them like backpacks or stuff like that and no were to keep it. The sport is probly your best bet. I really like hte fx4 but if your just daily driving the sport should have everything you want.

I would go with a level 2 looks good, go's anywhere i want, hauls anything, has the ext cab which is a really good idea. only down side is it not great on gas.
