i picked up a 99 ranger with a bad auto has a 4.0 extended cab and has 245/75/16 tires.. their just about shot.. well i converted it to a manual truck. iam going to be in the market for some new tires. its going to be a dd and it has 4.10 gears.. what would you think my best overall tire size should be to get the best MPG.. i was thinking a 32.11.5 15 or a 285 75 16... figured id drop the rpms.. iam going to use it in the winter to tow a sled trailer and what not.. ive got a 95 ranger with 4.10s running 33 12.5 15s and its boosted now.. i get about 12mpg around town and about 14-16 hwy.. opinions?

Going any bigger than your stock tires won't get you better mileage, thats for damn sure... Stick with 235's or 245's for the best mileage.

With a manual, you should be able to get 19mpg... at least... on highway with 245's...

When mine was stock wih 31's and 3.73's it would pull 20mpg on the hwy, and 16-17 in town. I'd go with a 265/75R16, it'll give you a little better hwy mileage but not kill the power you'll want for towing a trailer around.

And I'll suggest the Goodyear Duratrac's while I'm at it.

I ran 265/75-16's on my '05' SOHC w/4.10's 4x4 and got almost 22 on hi-way in good weather. Going taller will drop your road RPM's a bit to help mileage. Remember, narrower tires are usually better in the snow.

Get a set of the 66" tires they use on monster trucks, you'll never get stuck. :)

thats wat i was figuring with the 16s. get a bit bigger or Taller tire to drop the rpms.. my dad has a 94 with 3.73s and 31s an can pull 22 out of it.. so 265s it is!
