I have a '04 Ranger s/c 4X4 and the existing Firestone tires (the ones that came with the truck) are badly cupped and need replacing. I'm kinda backwards from the typical 4X4-er in that I do 95% street driving and maybe a little off-road here and there. I'd love to get a tire that is nice and quite on the street, but will not be all that bad off-road.. I know there are a number of different choices, but I'm wondering what some of you reccomend. Thanks!

BFG All Terrain TA.

not noisy. good traction.

FYI, you are quite typical of the kind of person that likes to have fun in thier Daily Driver which happens to be a 4x4.

bingo.

I like the KO a bunch, always have. Used it on Rangers to F250's.
They wear like iron and have a good combination of everything that lets them do everything well without sucking in the dirt like a street tire, or sucking on the wet pavement like a mudder.

This is probably going to turn into a who's tire is better thread, but my money is the BFG all Terrains too. This is also a very common question feel free to search.

I used the BFG's for a long time. I recently got a smoking deal on some Toyo Open Country AT's. They are comparable in traction and noise. I can't comment on longevity since I only have maybe 10k on these ones but I love the Toyo's so far. The only thing I did notice is that with the little swoopy center on the Toyo's they shed the clay better than my BFG's did (they don't clog as easily).

sounds like me! youre not abnormal... im the same way. i was planning on bfg all terrains, this just seals the deal.

Ok, the BFG A/Ts sound good...but how do they do in the snow and ice?

I don't get a huge amount of snow, but one main reason I got a 4WD is so I can get to work in the winter...

I was planning on Bridgestone Dueler Revos, but the super price I found, turns out not to be so super...

I have Michelin LTX AT tires and they sure seem to work well off road, they will see some snow and mud and a bunch of hardpack today. They wear well.

check out the Dayton Timberline A/T,I wanted Bfg's also but who can afford them?I got my Daytons (265/75/16)for 110 a piece and they've been great, quiet on the road and real good off road,I drive 40 miles one way to work and we haven't seen dry dirt for 3 months in Ohio

I just put a set of BFG A/T KO's on my F-250 the end of August. Granted I never drive it anymore because it's too thirsty, I LOVE the tires.

I've only put about 2500 miles on them, but I've had them in mud, wet grass, snow, ice, etc.

They do great in everything. The most noticeable improvement is in snow. I've used 4WD this winter but for safety only. I would have been just fine in 2WD with these tires. In fact, I am somewhat disappointed because I can't get hung up in snow anymore. They may spin for a second, but then dig down, catch and off you go.

I found myself not even locking the hubs anymore when it snows, I just don't need it.

Other than being a bit pricey, I would recommend them to anyone.

honestly the the bfgs are awesom and they do ride really well on the road (i put them on my truck and love them) but if you want a nice quiet tire you should take a look at the goodyear wrangler silent armors, awesome tire and will be a lot quieter than the bfg yet still off road capable. pirelli scorpion ats are good too, less aggresive tread but still look pretty cool.

Check out Dunlop Rovers.

I also have an S-dime Blazer that has a set of Wranglers on it, and rarely have to engage the 4x4 in the winter. They grip well.

I think a Bogger would work awsome for you.... Lol, jk. I have Maxxis big horns as well as my brother. Mine are 33s and a little loud but he is running 31s on his X and they arnt to loud. The Toyo Opencountry A/T would be a great tire, that or the BGF A/T. I work at Les Schwabs and deal with Toyos alot, They are a pretty good tire. I dont like the M/Ts much but the A/Ts are great.
