hey, i have a 2wd 96 ranger that im wanting to put a 302 in, but im tying to find out the best manual transmission to use. A 5 speed would be nice for the overdrive. But whats a durable transmission, and what vehicle could i find one in? thanks

t-5 from a mustang gt they are a dime a dozen they used them on the 5.0 from the 80's to the mid 90's and can withstand a good deal of power but everything has it breaking point's

i am not sure about that are you doin a 2wd truck or four wheel drive if your doin a 4wd i don't thinnk you have a lot of options

t18/19.

beefy and heavy, but youre never gonna break it.

they also used the m5odr2 in f150s, which is basically a bigger version of what rangers already have.

creeper 1st 4-speed! run 3.55 gears.

I'd go with the Tremec T5 as previously mentioned. They're easy to find, and can stand a fair bit of power.

The F-150's didn't come with a T5, they had either the M5ODR2 or a ZF somethin or other, can't recall the number right now.

+1 on the 'stang box in a 2wd........ maybe even t-56 if it could be had for the right price

get one out of a gt or cobra early 90s they hold up to the most power....may cost a little more but well worth it....better to spend a little more the first time to buy a good strong part then have to replace the cheap weak part over and over again

Since you have a 2WD, go with a mustang based trans (T-5 or Tremec), the truck based trans (M5OD-R2) does not like speed shifting, and you can go through gears quickly (as in tear them up). Even if you are doing a 4WD swap later, there are adapters available to make the T-5 4WD capable
