my local parts store quoted me $400 for a clutch kit from Dynapac. I started looking online cause I thought that was high...

Lot's to choose from...

2.3. reg cab, 2wd daily driver. Just my commuter... don't need super high performance... just good, strong, reliable clutch.

any advice on what to get or what not to get?

rockauto has good prices, but don't know much about different brands!

Help me out!

Yeah. Just get something as close to OE as possible. The FACTORY clutch in mine ('94, 2.3, 4x4) is still going strong with 160,000 on the odo.

Just make sure you replace the throwout bearing & all the other little parts at the same time! Besides, it'll save headachs & labor later on.

Just about any clutch kit will work fine. I got one for one of my old Bronco II's for like $40 off RockAuto and that thing was awesome.

You should replace the pilot bearing and probably the clutch slave cylinder while you are in there too, and for sure have the flywheel resurfaced.
