I'm making a parts list right now for a 302/C4 swap into my '90 Ranger and I was looking for those with experience with this swap to chime in with their recommendations. FYI this will be a drag racing truck aiming for low 12 second 1/4 mile times. P.S. This all has to be done on a $5K budget.

Motor Mounts: Advance Adapters? Duff? Other? TransDapt? Why?

Headers: Research tells me that for my application that the Tri-Y Patriot headers are the best fit, best power and best bang for the buck. Here's a link: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=PTE-H8426&N=700+115&autoview=sku

Oil Filter Relocation Kit: Which is the best one out there or are they all pretty well the same?

Oil Pan: Dual sump? Rear sump? Why?

Rad: Keeping in mind the budget, which rad is the best bang for the buck. I'm not scared to scrounge junkyards but I'm not ordering up a brand new 4-core aluminum rad.

Any help is much appreciated.

Use a transdapt 90* oil filter adapter. As for a rad, use a 91-94 Explorer HD rad. Use a dual sump mustang pan and pickup from an 87-93 mustang. The dual sump is required to clear the engine crossmember in your Ranger. Hedman 88400 headers are also a good fit.

got the perma cool for the oil reloction, just got to buy the hoses and fittings at your local parts house was around $35 time i got done

L and L engine mounts, little spendy, but direct bolt in(what i used), the mustang convertible mounts would have been my second choice

dual sump pan for 4wd, 2wd can probably get away with a rear sump pan, on my b2 the rear sump hit the suspension bracket so i switch to a dual sump

rad, 91-94 explorer

cooling fan: 3.8l ford Taurus electric fan setup in front of the radiator

This is for a 2WD conversion by the way.

Any other feedback? Looking especially for motor mount experience and any problems with the patriot headers I had a link to.

The rad and electric fan seem like a no-brainer.

Just use the mustang convertible mounts switched side for side.

I have no experience with those headers.

Made a bit of progress. Motor/Trans/Gas tank are out (going with a fuel cell)

Also had a couple of scores... sold the M5OD-R1 for $300 and I picked up a C4 transmission without bellhousing or valve body for $50.

And the find of the week was an explorer 8.8 with limited slip 3.73 gears and 31 spline axles for $200...

Total costs:

Truck: $600
Axle: $200
Trans: $50
Selling Trans: -$300
Total: $550
