Benz om617

If you ran it dry the easiest way to reprime the injector lines is by slightly loosening them at the injector, and then cranking the engine until fuel starts to spill then snug them down.

If you leave it all sealed & push air it will take 50 years to prime the lines.

I've cracked them and done it but won't satt

Re-tighten the injector lines and stop cranking for now. If the pump is really air locked and the system is out of fuel, it will never start.

The OM617 engine has a built-in manual primer pump for when it's run dry of fuel. It is located forward of the injection pump on the driver's side of the engine, down in the area below the secondary fuel filter (the big round one). The primary (little) fuel filter makes a 90-degree turn down right into the manual primer pump housing. It is identified by a white round top, about 1.5" diameter. Unscrew that (it takes a bunch of turns) and then start priming by pulling the white round screw top towards the sky. It only has about 1.5" inches of travel. Pump it up and down (a lot of pumps if you ran it out of fuel) until you feel a noticeable change in resistance. When you feel the change in resistance, that means there is fuel to the injection pump and you're ready to start the engine. It should start within just a few seconds of cranking. To speed up the priming process, you can unscrew the large secondary fuel filter and fill it with diesel fuel, but that's not necessary if the pump works. They are a common source of leaks, too, so you might want to replace it soon. If it leaks while pumping, it will still work, it will just take longer to prime.

Attached is a picture of your engine with the manual primer pump circled in red. Good luck.

By the way, the process mentioned above for priming the system is the same method of getting the car running again after changing the secondary fuel filter if you don't have a spare container of diesel to fill the new filter up with before reinstallation.

Re drip timed the motor and got it too 23 and started right up when I had it runing I hooked up the boost line and it was blowing black and the more I ran it the cleaner it was getting but I didn't have the cooling system hooked right up And just didn't want to harm anything hope to get it all buttoned up tomorrow and register it for the weekend

Awesome! Once she's running and settled in, definitely advance the timing, 26* should be safe

So I tracked down the stupid issue... Turns out the governor is stuck in the injector pump pulled her out to take to the pump guy in the city could probably of torn it apart at the shop but I just don't have the time to do it myself and he randomly had the same pump come thru three weeks ago and will do it over the weekend for me so worth it in my opinion.. But other then that I just have to shorten my front drive shaft but can't stick it in till I get the pump back in and that about does it till next spring when I can get at the wheel wells of the box rear quarters and a better rear bumper

It's alive running like a top but I have found a non charging alternator so need to rebuild it before putting it on the road along with a couple little brackets I just wanna tidy it all up before having things fall off those first few drives I will post pictures at the end here and a video link aswell

Well as my luck goes with the project just as every project does I found a issue with the alternator when I opened it up it was to far gone to rebuild for me. I ordered a new one that will be here tomorrow afternoon so today I'm gonna just go thur and make sure I didn't miss anything so tomorrow night I can drop her in and go for a cruise. Pictures to follow

Runs and drives beautifully gonna run up town at lunch time to register it and ten take it for a little ride not far from the shop so I can make sure all is well and then tomorrow take it home to attempt the rest of the week driving her I know I keep promising pictures but I need to figure out how to post multiple in one post then I will

Aesome! FYI the Bosch AL129X puts out 115A and is a dropin, just needs to swap the pulleys and make up a new battery cable.
