my dad has a 2001 ford ranger with the 3.0 motor that he hates. he also has a 95 4.0 ranger thats perfectly fine running wise except the frames starting to rust. hes wanting to switch the motors but is having trouble finding what all he would need.

2001 ford ranger
3.0 motor
5 speed tranny
four wheel drive
no cruise control

1995 ford ranger
4,0 motor
5 speed tranny
four wheel drive
no cruise control

we have the cmplete truck for both. what all would we need to change over?

i know we would have to change the:
motor
tranny (3.0 wont botl upt o 4.0 correct?)
computer

what about everything else?
Steering column?
transfer case?

would the motor mounts and tranny mounts all be the same?
will the 4.0 tranny mount up to the drive shaft?

i know theirs tons of stickied but ive looked and their all about the 2.9 to 4.0 swaps and around the same years.

any help would be great guys.

ive already looked at them. most of the swaps are from the same year 3.0 to 4.0 or 2.3 to 4.0.

im just wondering now about the axle and rear end from the 3.0 bolting up to the 4.0 motor, trans and transfercase. everything else im pretty sure would work. :icon_confused:

im switching a 95 drivetrain to a 01 chassis.

should as the M5OD and tc will be the same, no? but if you have the time and money, it would be a good time to swap in a manual transfer case and hubs for reliability.

they didn't change the bolt patterns on the motors and tranny's from year to year so they should match up as well.

you could actually just swap in the motor and leave everything else behind it in place i believe.

so what your saying is that i should be able to switch the 4.0 motor and trans from the 95 and put it into the 01 truck with the 3.0? and leave the axle and driveshafts alone?

i thought i read somewhere that you needed to change the driveshaft or something because it wont handle the 4.0?

the 95 already has manual hubs. im not sure about the transfer case

this is a daily driver. no off roading other than maybe to haul some wood aroudn the yard or something. no mud action or nothing like that.

but the 4.0 transfercase and driveshaft should bolt up to the 3.0 motor and trans okay?
