hi guys i have a 99 3.0 ranger and i was wondering a not way too pricey way to beef up my whimpy engine :bawling: all i have done to it is add a kkm tru rev induction kit. links to sites or just advice would b great. thanks guys :icon_thumby:

Check out stuffforyourranger.com as they have plenty of ranger stuff. I think if you are on a budget, look into an underdrive crankshaft pulley. I noticed a difference in acceleration whether it be in town driving or high rpm take offs. Also, I managed to pull in an extra 15 miles to the tank between fill ups, which isn't too terrible now is it. If you are feeling a bit more spendy, then look into an Xcal and tune for your truck. Especially if it is an auto trans, as the tune will tweak both engine and Tranny. If its a manual, look into the Xcal and tune still but also check out rogue 1.7:1 roller rockers as these will extend the life of your engines oil, provide a good solid horsepower increase, a quieter valvetrain, and possibly slightly cooler engine oil temps. A cat-back exhaust will not give you very much of an increase in power but it will give you the healthy sound and good looks to go along with the other mods.

that is the exact site i have been pickin thru for the past hour. is the coil pack they have on there any good..the screamin demon?

I do not have any experience with coil packs, but a general rule of thumb is that a more powerful spark is only needed when there are higher cylinder pressures. This is because it takes more voltage (think of voltage as pressure) for the electrons to overcome the resistance of forced induction or higher compression pistons in the cylinder to jump from the electrode to the ground. Ford has a very dependable and powerful factory ignition system. You may notice an increase in power but most likely due to the "tune up" factor rather than more voltage. I can only give you theory, though as I do not have personal experience with screamin demon coil packs.

thats a sound theory, i tuned up this past summer...just looking a fuel mileage factors...i reckon it comes down to the mental masturbation thing allenD is quoted for in ppls sigs

As said previously, I have experience with the Underdrive Pulley and E-fan. I really do wish there were more mods like this. It was one of the more noticable mods in acceleration (I didn't have to shift as high) and mileage. Plus, it took all of 1 and a half hours to install the fan and pulley including cleanup.
