whats better than finding a replacement bed in great shape at the salvage yard? One in the same color as your truck!! I will be changing the holy box for this one thats in much better shape. What are my biggest issues to deal with? I am hoping this will go quick and painlessly, cause I have other plans for my weekend!
There isn't much to swapping the bed out. 6 bolts in the bed, a few screws on the filler neck, and the lights. the bolts could be a b!%@ if rusted tight.
I would suggest soaking the 6 bolts with some PB Blaster or WD-40 the night before if there's rust on them. I only had one that was a bugger to get out, and it was the hardest to get at (by the fuel tank). Other than that, it's a really simple and quick process.
Yeah...torx and impact gun got mine to break off nicely at the clip...lol...
Congrats on the find...I had to settle for a red box for mine and spent a few hours cleaning it up and painting it...
When you have the box off you might take a good look at the frame and, perhaps, clean it up a bit and put some protection on it...save you time later and not have to worry about it...
Oh, and even if the bolts come out nicely I'd suggest replacing them if you can find them...
should be pretty easy, PB is your friend, if they are rusted badly make sure you have a few spare torx bits, i broke two doing mine, also an impact gun or a big piece of steel pipe for extra leverage are helpful...i should have taken pictures of my bolts they were almost unidentifiable.
