Hi Fellas,

My '94 XLT Ranger has a bed/cargo light as part of the third brake light fixture located at the top & rear of the cab. This cargo light is turned on when the interior lights are switched on. Apparently this feature was dropped somewhere along the newer model years because my 2006 XLT Ranger doesn't have this feature....it only has the brake light at the top/rear of the cab. :icon_confused:

Has anyone here install a cargo light in their newer Ranger? :dunno:
If so, what did you do? I'm looking for ideas...........

Thanks in Advance for any & all opinions, thoughts and suggestions, Guys! :icon_thumby:

yes, people have done it, they simply installed one with a cargo light in it

I added one to my 06. My truck didn't have the wiring for the cargo lights, so I had to run a new wire, installed a toggle switch, and wired it directly to the battery with a fuse. An easy way to tell if you have the wiring is to see hwo many wires you have going to the light. If you have three wires, you're already wired for cargo lights (1 wire for brake light, 1 for cargo lights, 1 ground). If you only have two wires, you need to run your own wire.

I installed a Putco LED third brake light with cargo lights. It was pretty expensive, but the quality is outstanding. No more leaking water into the cab or terrible 912 light bulbs.

Fellas,

Thanks for all the replies, Guys!

I'll look into the Putco LED unit you mentioned, exbass94.

Thanks!

Honestly for a cargo light you could figure out a way to mount them under your tool box or something. I used to have a pair of lights mounted to my headache rack before I sold it, wanting to do it again.

oh you want to know what light to use? i wasn't sure with your ambiguous first post...

you can use the factory one off of a few years of ranger, which has cargo lights, f-150 up to about 2005, and super duty to this year IIRC

as for alternatives, LED light strips, mounted under the box rail looks really sick, can't see it unless it's on, and works really well
