I have always seen people bob the bed at the back. However in my 78 F150, the front of by bed floor is rusted out real bad. I cant think of an easy way to patch it so I was gonna bob it from the front. Any ideas? Opinions?

Folks typically bob a bed from the rear because they are cutting a section of the frame BEHIND the rear wheels out to increase the departure angle.

Sectioning the front section of the bed would mean that you would have to move the rear axle forward while maintaining the section of frame hanging off behind the rear axle. While the reduction in wheel base might be beneficial, improving the departure angle will prove much more advantageous for a wheeling rig.

Oh by the way, hows the Dodge on Rocks treating you?:stirthepot:

Okay since I didnt think about the wheel well issue, how would you go about fixing the issue? Cut some plate and lay in the floor over the holes is the only way I could think of to "fix" it

dont help this liar

is this a joke between friends, or something serious? the OP has something i want to buy.

-if its a joke, a smilie would be a great way to eliminate confusion.
-if its serious, it sounds like something that needs to be resolved with the moderators.

and to answer the original question, just cut some metal out of another bed and weld it in.

What do I have that you want to buy?

About the bed, I wish I could but around here all he older trucks have swamp rot and are rusted worse than this. This is about the best one I found. The bed is rusted so thin that I think it would be hard to patch. Also dont have a mig so it would be even harder.\

About the thing everybody is referring to... You all are a bunch of immature assholes for bringing that back up. I walked away from it to try and stay on this board due to the helpfull insite on many things. I dont have to prove myself. You all assume things without proof.

it was your "5.0 partout" thread, i replied over there

is it just the floor that's rusted out, or up the sides too?

i would try to find a newer ford bed, and cut out the whole floor and transplant. you may even be able to take the outer "skin" off a newer bed, and try to put the old ford "skins" on it. not sure how possible that would be though. but with a welder, anything is possible.

It is just the floor. Basically imagine if you had a toolbox in your truck, the are that would be under it is rusted out. Just the floor though.

Are you shitting me? You posted a monster mud truck off the CUMMINS FORUM and claimed it was yours. As soon as someone calls you out on it, you tuck your tail between your legs and hide. Tony, I wouldn't buy shit from this idiot. :owned:

Here's your proof:

I'm going to ignore all the other crap...

I would just find another bed and cut the floor out and use it. It doesn't have to be an older bed, because as mentioned before, with a welder and a grinder, anything is possible.

Thats the problem is finding a bed in good enough shape that would work.

there should be a newer bed in a junkyard somewhere thats been t-boned, that you can pick up for cheap to cut up.

or maybe try LMC Truck, they may have patch panels (but will probably be more expensive)

as far as the other stuff, i dont really care. you're gonna get called out and made fun of for awhile, you'll learn your lesson, and you'll come out the other side a better person.

after sifting a little, i see you made a dumb move about 3 months ago. well, that's been awhile. i'm sure you learned your lesson, so i don't really see the point of dragging it back up.

So your saying find a new bed and graft the new floor from that bed into the old bed? That may be possible

About a year ago, Peterson's ran a feature on a late 60's/early 70's chevy 3/4 ton trail rig that also had it's fair share of issues with rust. The owner had the same issue as you and solved the problem by cutting out the rusted-through bed floor and welding in steel tube supports with a few layers of steel mesh on top. For a little dough and with a little creativity, you could probably do something similar and still have a functional bed.
