Hi All;

Ranger has 107K+ on it and the Alternator, Power steering, etc. bearings are getting noisy. Can't seem to find replacement bearings. Everyone wants to sell me rebuilt alternators etc. Where can I get bearings? How can I tell what type of alternator etc. is on the vehicle?

Thanks

For shits and giggles i called my local salvage yard and they have two alternators one 95 amp and 130 amp they both are 30 bucks each with a 6 month warranty. I am ASSUMING your truck takes the 130 amp?? mine does and I have a 1996 4.0l

For what it's worth I bought a used alternator at the same salvage yard for my 1997 Taurus and it was 35 bucks with a 6 month warranty.

If your ranger doesn't have the "doubled" fuseable link grab the alternator
charging harness with the 130A alternator (of the yard apes didn't simply cut it)

Unfortunately you cant replace the bearings you have to replace the whole unit.

no, that can't be right.

they rebuild your alternator core when they get it when you buy a reman, obviously THEY can replace the bearings, so it's not like a replacement bearing doesn't exist.

The bearings get replaced at rebuild, but for many 96/97+ units the clearances are so tight and precise that rebuild kits aren't offered for them. It's too hard for the average joe to get it right that they just don't sell them.
