bearing grease

This may sound stupid but what kind of grease do I use on my front wheel bearings? The POS manual I have says use 4wd grease. Anybody know what that is?

Just get yourself some Lucas green heavy duty equipment rated grease. Its the best heat resistant and water resistant.

Wheel bearings use....wheel bearing grease. It'll actually say right on the package that it's for wheel bearings.

Hey exbass94, glad you can read your can of grease but evidently you can't read my post. Again the manual says use 4WD grease which I fail to see listed on the picture of cheap grease you posted. Pay attention now class... Thanks Big Mark for the info, I'm looking for it now.- WB

i used to use just red wheel bearing grease, but when out playing in the mud and what not it doesnt last long, i switched to the green marine grease and its better, since then ive switch to the above mentioned lucas heavy duty green grease, the stuff is awesome. i use it on everything. it lasts a lot longer in my opinion.

I use the stuff that Exbass posted. The Lucas green is good, so is the red n tacky.

Valvoline and Penzoil both make gray greases that also do the job well. I have used them all.


To date, in 27.5 years my wheel bearings have been replaced twice. Once because I upgraded to a Dana 35, and the 28 bearings just don't fit, and then again because I over torqued the first ones (which were original to that axle) and made them buzz.


In fact, I have only seen one major bearing failure on that style setup, and that moron forgot to put any grease on his new bearings Saturday afternoon. Then as he pulled into work Monday morning his wheel fell off. We didn't really trust him with working on cars after that.
