I have a motorcraft battery that I was checking the water level on and there is a green indicator and after adding water it turned red. Is this bad?

was it pure distilled water? the water level needs to be even across all 6 cells. try to fully charge the battery before assuming its bad. the acid is probably just diluted until you charge it. or the plates are etched from having low water

The water shouldnt be at the very very top of the battery. It just needs to be covering the plates

AGM batteries cannot be looked at. Other than cleaning terminals. Some maintenance free ones also cannot have the caps removed. The inexpensive batteries all tend to need service for sure though.

And theres no such thing as a service free battery => all batteries need to be looked at, at least once a year.

Funny..........I have a store full of them.
A long with AGM and True Gel batteries............Name your poison.....when it comes to batteries...........I got em.

PLanes,Trains,and eveything in between,I have a battery for it.:icon_thumby:

ok. I forgot to say lead acid batteries. sue me =>

And its its a sealed lead acid they simply don't last as long as a serviceable battery. provided it gets serviced.

I've pried open sealed batteries to service them. works too.

My entire fleet of electric golf carts were 100% deep cycle lead acids. The gels simply don't hold up.

Seen many a Motorcraft battery last 8-12 years at work. They are maintenance free and we do not touch them. I'd say they last just fine.

Thank you for posting that......no one believes me when I tell them the same thing.

Sweet that was very helpful, I got to go out and look at it again, its fired up fine monday and today. I think its the orig battery from 02 I could be wrong, when I bought it, the dealer did not tell me anything in the way of work done on it, so i replaced the plugs changed the oil(when i got it) and 2 weeks ago flushed the rad. I bought it back in the middle of 06 and the only think thats happen to it is some sensor went bad.
