Battery options for 99 Ranger

Oddessy! That is one of the brands I saw that were listed as fitting!
what is in yours now?
The Oddesy comes up as a 59, but its in fact a 65.
its 12" long & a 59 is 10"
heres a pic of a 65 sitting on top of the tray.....

The XS power is the only true 59,

Im sure I can hack the truck up to make it work but looks sketchy
battery sitting on upright metal edges of the tray.
& now way to strap it down.
along with battery sitting 1/2" closer to hood due to sitting on tray.
I can bend the tray edges but....

The battery trays must have changed. Dimensiins for my Odyssey listed below. You could go to a junk yard and get a 3rd gen battery tray.

A standard lead acid from one of the auto parts stores. The plan is to replace it with an AGM the next time around since I didn't have the money at the time the last lead acid battery failed.

XS Power is the other brand I remember seeing.

with the lifepo batteries available now you can get crazy with batteries.

i run 2-4 conventional group 31's depending on what i am doing.

if you are to the point of needing a new battery and have u pull yards near, many newer vehicles and vans have remote mounted batteries.

the group 31 lifepos i was recently working with for starting two small 3 cyl diesel power units and running telemetrics were wildly light.

buying one or two of those and robbing a few chrysler 300s or dodge chargers of some battery cables is a pretty cost effective way of adding battery capacity under your bed.

i ran an old ramsey for damn near 30 years and it was old when i got it. but a 130 amp alternator and 1st half life battery is plenty to run any winch...even with just one battery.... for normal pulls and duty cycles.

My bad, maybe I mis-understood..
Thought you said you were running an AMG in your rig..
Got it, youre not..

Im not liking the price of the XS, but also not liking the recent rep o the Optimas..
Going to have a conversation with the stereo installer & see if the juice is worth the squeeze at this point.
Alternator vs battery as theyre both the same price...

Ok…

My 00 green Ranger I did flatten the front of the factory tray for a larger battery. I wasn’t really happy with that. Ended up removing the factory tray when I replaced the core support and put a battery tray out of a 98 Explorer (96-01 Explorer should all have the same tray). I had to tweak the ABS mount a little and I replaced the ground stud on the core support with a bolt. Ran 1/0 welding cable into the cab for power distribution and ran 4 gauge welding cable for all of the power and ground under the hood. Also doubled the alternator power cable with a 4 gauge welding cable. The Explorer tray requires moving the horn if it’s between the plastic fender liner and the metal inner fender slightly but it fits a 65 series battery in the tray. The same battery I use in all of my other vehicles. I also replaced the factory 10 gauge ground from the battery to the core support with a 4 gauge. Amp grounds I always run back to the battery.

My F-150 has a 130a alternator and a 65 series battery. I’ve upgraded all of the wires with 4 gauge welding cable as well. Running my 8k MileMarker winch, it still draws a lot of juice. I will probably do a dual alternator system and dual batteries when I rebuild since I’m intending to fit it out with 4-5 12k winches plus be able to mount my plow.

The only thing that has an AGM in it at the moment, that I'm aware of is the 2019. The Escape might have one in it as well, since it has start/stop, but I haven't verified that yet.

I get it on the price of the AGM batteries in general. They are expensive. If you ever decide to look at lithium for a "house battery", prepare for sticker shock. Add at least $200 to the XS AGM price.
