2006 ranger 3.0. 65,000ish miles. first time i changed the oil (6 months ago) i learned the hard way to unhook the negative battery cable to avoid spark when dropping the oil filter onto the starter. got it all back together, and the battery light was on for 5 or so start cycles and went off on its own. changed the oil again saturday and unhooked the negative cable. went smoothly, replaced filter and oil, hooked cable back up. started truck and the battery light has been on ever since. getting 14.04 v at the battery with truck on, 12.8 after its been sitting off overnight. alternator is definitely charging as the lights get dimmer after shutting off truck. have a ammeter gauge hooked up off the battery now as a precaution until i can figure out how to get the battery light off. any suggestions?
